Prosocial is a process for improving the wellbeing and effectiveness of teams. Any team working together to achieve common goals can benefit from this scientifically-proven system.
It draws upon psychology, evolutionary theory and the Nobel prize-winning research of political scientist, Elinor Ostrom. She evidenced that groups work most effectively if they enact eight core principles. When these are combined with the latest behavioural and social psychology findings – regarding ways to enhance values-directed action, resilience and perspective-taking – this forms a powerful tool for creating significant behaviour change in groups and promoting collaborative and innovative thinking.
Psychological safety, according to Dr Amy Edmondson, the scholar and Harvard Business School professor who coined the term, “is a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes.” Recent research by Google has demonstrated that the highest performing, most innovative and healthy teams are those with the highest indicators of psychological safety. Organisations who frame employment as learning and problem-solving opportunities and encourage curiosity and speaking out are more likely to gain competitive edge and encourage innovation and intrapreneurship.
